Sarah is a DONA trained birth and postpartum doula. She has additional training in Benkung Bellybinding and TENS Unit pain management support for during labor. While Sarah’s interest in health care and supporting women began over 16 years ago as a nursing and nonprofit management student, it was the pregnancy and birth of her first biological child three years ago that led her to pursue the doula profession.
Previous to her work as a doula, she spent over ten years working in higher education student development where she mentored college students in social justice education and service. Sarah’s last few years in higher education focused on equitable programming and policy, specifically in the areas of affirming diversity. Just as clients are diverse in their gender, sexuality, ethnicity and religion, they are also diverse in their birth and parenting needs and wants. Her aim is for each person(s) to truly feel supported and enabled to have their best birth.
Sarah is the mother of three: an 11-year-old stepson, 3-year-old daughter and 7-month-old son. Along with her kids, she resides in Richardson with her husband and rescue dog. Her interests include anything outdoors, traveling and getting her Christmas decorations up as early as her family can handle.
