Melissa Matus is a Birth Arts International trained doula. Melissa hails from Louisiana where she received a degree in Psychology from Centenary College in 2008. Post graduation, she was privileged to work for an organization called Young Life for six years, beginning as an intern and becoming an area developer/director. After her time with Young Life, Melissa spent two semesters at Northwestern State University completing her pre-requisites for nursing school. During this time she was trained as a doula and also became engaged to a wonderful man from Dallas.
It didn’t take her long to realize that what drew her to nursing, the idea of one-on-one patient care and being fully present with people during their time of need, was not a large percentage of the job of a nurse. However, it IS what doulas have the honor of doing! Now settled in Dallas, she is excited to be working with North Dallas Doula Associates as a birth doula.
Melissa has a huge heart for people, relationships, and community and is passionate about combating the birth culture of fear that surrounds us with one of faith, joy, and peace. She is passionate about supporting and empowering women, especially by providing their partners’ with the tools and the confidence to be engaged and involved in the journey of labor, birth, and beyond. Melissa is thrilled and blessed with the opportunity to work with the outstanding women of the NDDA and to serve the families of the DFW area. “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth." Psalm 139: 14-15
